Una Leyenda del Soul: Diana Ross

Diane Ernestine Earle Ross nació el 26 de Marzo de 1944.
Es una cantante y actriz norteamericana cuyo repertorio musical abarca el R&B, Soul, Disco, Jazz y Pop.

Diana Ross ganó fama como líder del exitoso grupo femenino de soul The Supremes, antes de encarar su carrera como solista en 1970. Entre ese año y los 80, Ross se convirtió en una de las mas exitosas artistas de la era del rock, incursionando con éxito también en el cine, la televisión y Broadway.

En el transcurso de su carrera recibió el premio Tony Award por el musical "An Evening With Diana Ross" de 1977, siete American Music Awards y un Golden Globe por su rol en el filme sobre la vida de la cantante de jazz Billie Holiday titulado "Lady Sings the Blues". Además Diana fue nominada 12 veces para el premio Grammy y una vez para el premio Academy Award (Oscar).

En 1976 la revista Billboard la nombró Artista del Siglo. El Libro Guinness la registra como la artista musical femenina del siglo 20 con 18 singles numero uno: 12 como lider de las Supremes y 6 como solista.

Como solista Ross fue la primera mujer en tener 6 singles numero uno en USA.

También es una de las pocas artistas elegidas que figuran con dos estrellas en el Hollywood Walk of Fame, una como solista y la otra como miembro de las Supremes.
